September 14-16, several agency heads associated with the Fellowship of Missions once again enjoyed a wonderful time of both spiritual and physical refreshment at our annual FOM CEO Retreat, held this year in the beautiful Alpine community of Helen, GA, better known as “Georgia’s Alpine Village.” We enjoyed lovely accommodations at Best Western Plus, two delicious buffet dinners and a pizza party @ Papa’s Pizza. I apologize for telling you that we acted just like kids! Devotional speakers this year were Dr. Keith Davey and Chaplain John Ahern, Missions to Military, and Maynard Belt, FOM president. Singing, sharing, testimonies, praying and getting to know each better is always a highlight of each FOM CEO Retreat.
September 16-18, we traveled a short distance away to the headquarters of Biblical Ministries Worldwide, Lawrenceville, GA, for our Annual FOM Conference. Paul Seger, BMW General Director, and his staff were very gracious hosts. Our theme was “Benchmarks for Leadership Transitions.” Such transitions have been going on since the beginning of time. Several of our FOM agencies are or will be facing in the near future transitions of leadership. This certainly was a helpful subject learning from each other and seeking wisdom through interaction with our guest facilitator, Dr. Paul Bufford, pastor, Abingdon Bible Church, Abingdon, VA. Pastor Chris Anderson, Killian Hills Baptist Church, Lilburn, GA, was our devotional speaker.
The Fellowship of Missions consists of 25 Mission Agencies representing some 2,000 missionaries serving on all six continents of the world. Our purpose is to provide collaborative interaction among member mission agency leaders for mutual accountability, personal and ministry development and encouragement. Next year’s Annual FOM CEO Retreat and Conference will be September 20-24, 2014, hosted by Continental Baptist Missions, Rockford, MI, just north of Grand Rapids. Our theme will be along the line of reaching the next generation for missions with guest facilitator, Dr. Mark Vowels, Bob Jones University. Forthcoming details will be posted on our website in the near future. Hopefully we will see many more of you there!
